Hey, folks, it's time for a fundraising push! MetaFilter depends primarily on member and reader funding to operate, and that's even more true over time as advertising revenue continues to decline. Your new and increased subscriptions and one-time contributions are what will make it possible for us to continue to operate as the actively moderated community website we've been for the last 22 years and counting.

Two weeks after announcing a big revenue shortfall, y'all are now contributing nearly $10,000 more per month to support the site, which is amazing and puts us on firmer ground for the future. Read up on what's next!

Here's an important site update; we are facing a serious revenue shortfall and making plans for how to remedy that short term and stabilize MeFi's income and community-support process in the long term. Details in that link; here's our fundraising page.
It's been a year since Metafilter was dealing with a massive financial crisis and layoffs, and things are a lot more stable today, thanks in large part to the tremendous generosity of the Metafilter community in helping to fund the site's operation. Here's a round-up of the last year's events, and what's next for the site, as well as some new details on how folks can help the site out financially.
We want to say thank you, again, to all the folks on Metafilter and in the web community at large who care about this site and support its continued presence as a unique, vibrant place on the internet.
MetaFilter started as a community weblog in 1999, later added question and answers, then music by members, jobs, projects by members, a podcast, and finally an area dedicated to meetups.
