A Flood of MeFi Music

They Might Be Giants - John FlansburghThey Might Be Giants - John Flansburgh by CLender (cc by)

In 1990, They Might Be Giants released their classic album "Flood". Over the last few months, musicians on MeFi Music have been posting cover songs for the entire album, which was recently completed, and all tracks can be heard here just in time for the 25th anniversary.

Stroll down memory lane

It's interesting to read the very first thread about (The) Facebook from 2005, the first thread about Netflix from 2002, and the night-before-launch of Apple's first iPod. It's also interesting to look back at less successful things like 2003's launch of Microsoft's first tablet computer and read what members thought.

What would happen if you transplanted an animal's eyes into a human?

The tough question of what it would be like to have animal eyes as a human got a great answer from member (and brain researcher) wyzewoman:

First, we have to consider the type of animal whose eye we're using. Mice, for instance, have remarkably poor acuity -- the world is a pretty big blur to them -- and I think a lot of that comes from the physical structure of their eyes, so the child would inherit this. However, there are predators with very good acuity, so let's assume we're using eyes from one of those. And of course there's the issue of color; most mammals can sense 2 rather than 3. Our hypothetical child wouldn't be able to get around this limitation.

Highlighting the best bits from the MetaFilter universe

MetaFilter started as a community weblog in 1999, later added question and answers, then music by members, jobs, projects by members, a podcast, and finally an area dedicated to meetups.
